What is a women's circle?
Since the beginning of time, women have gathered in circle. They gathered to tell stories around a fire. They gathered to share wisdom around an oven. They gathered to bleed together on mats in red tents. They gathered to cook for the pregnant and postpartum women, and teach the maidens the ways of the crones.
They gathered for their survival.
They were the ones who knew the signs of labor. They knew how to end a pregnancy and which herbs to chew on if your bleed was late. They knew the signs of dis-ease and how the body could heal. As their confidence and influence grew, it became clear that dividing them would be the only way patriarchs could regain control. And so the wise women, the healers, the midwives- they were cast out as witches and demonized, if not killed, for their innate power. Men referred to lunar women as "lunatics", replacing them deliberately in the female-owned realms of healing, such as birth and women's womb care. This was an active takeover of matriarchal power-
and by simply gathering we are taking our power back.
The medicine of a women's circle is within each of us. By sharing from our hearts and connecting with each other in women-only spaces, our nervous systems attune to safety, and we are able to lead from our core again.
